Achimota Preparatory School ‘rejects’ supposed GES management

Management of Achimota Preparatory School & JHS has rejected a recent statement by the Ministry of Education, suggesting that the School will be under the management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) as part of Achimota Basic School.
A press release issued by the Chief Director of the Ministry, Benjamin Kofi Gyasi, updated the public on the outcome of a meeting between management of the School and the sector minister.

In what the release described as a resolution after the meeting, Achimota Preparatory School & JHS is to be part of Achimota Basic School under the general management of the GES.
“The status of the staff, as well as the specific role of the current managers of the school are to be discussed at a subsequent meeting to be facilitated by the Chief Director of the Ministry of Education,” Mr Gyasi’s statement said.
But in a response to this, the management of the school said a misleading impression is being created by the Chief Director.

“We must state it unequivocally here that it was never agreed that Achimota Preparatory School be part of Achimota Basic School, let alone to be under the control and management of GES,” a rejoinder issued by Vice Chairman of the School’s Management Board Bernard Anaba on Monday, May 17 said.
He said the press release agreed upon by all parties, who did not attend the meeting at the “invitation of the Minister of Education”, has been doctored.
We believe that these unilateral additions to the [press] statement which we had disagreed early on in the meeting, were later added to deliberately create a misleading impression in the minds of the public and therefore should be disregarded and treated with the contempt it so deserves.”

The School’s management wants the matter to be resolved speedily to ensure that academic calendar as well as teaching and learning are not disrupted.

“Meanwhile, we the Management and other relevant Stakeholders of the School wish to sincerely thank the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his fatherly interest in this issue of the School and the speedy action on the Petition we dispatched to his office on the 4thof May 2021.
