SHOULD AFRICA BE RECOLONISED?

From back to back, we have seen presidents come and go. We have seen visionary leaders who had so much dreams dissipate and get lost in the whole political maze. As an African, I ask myself, do we need to be recolonized? Do we need to voluntarily hand over Africa to our colonial masters to recolonize us and get us to the place we need to be and must be? Colonisation might seem harsh so I would rephrase by asking: Should we sign a memorandum of understanding that would give an European country the right to govern our individual countries and put in place systems and structures found in Europe that make living ideal in these countries. Day in and day out, we see passionate leaders are made presidents to man our countries but are unable to because of the system of oppression that wouldn’t allow them to function, to take decisions as they should. Presidents and head of states who had schooled in Europe and seen how the systems in Europe are well structured and organized and how Africa would have been better off if decisions were taken to favour the continent and generations yet unborn. The only thing our continent can account for are shattered dreams where visionary youth of each country are fleeing to Europe, for better opportunities. Where those who return struggle to return to Europe because their dreams are stifled. Where , you wake up one day and see coup d’états happening from one African country to the other. Where we cant even boast of a single African language spoken in the continent.  Where the youth refuse to be patriotic and would rather be called Europeans instead of Africans. Where we lie to each other that things would be better but in all we are puppets being pulled with strings.  Why must it be so, why can’t we have structured systems in Africa like we have in Europe to create better opportunities and make Africa more accommodating for its citizens? Kwame Nkrumah, the first president of Ghana said,” Africa is capable of manning its own affairs”. With what has happened from Nkrumah’s time till now, I beg to differ. Africa is not capable of manning its own affairs. We have tried but it seems our colonial masters left us with a system where we would not evolve to be where we must be and should be. I believe it is time our continent begins to look at things differently to see how affiliations with European countries can rewrite the stories we have written from independence till now.
